Paul Newman was an icon of masculinity. Women wanted to have him and men wanted to be him. He was a well known philanthropist, humanitarian and even a race car enthuasist. He lived life to it's fullest. He one many Academy awards, directed movie, started charity organization, and the list goes on. No one could forget those eyes of ice blue pools. But what was he best known for? Paul Newman was known for being one of America's finest actors.

He starred in such movies as The Hustler, The Sting, The Towering Inferno, Cat on A Hot tin Roof, The Verdict, Cool Hand Luke, Butch Cassidy, Hud and The Sun Dance Kid. He was one of the few actors who got employed steadily throughout his lifetime. He was also one of those few Actors who had such a long lasting marriage. Joan Woodward and Paul Newman met on the set of 'A Long Hot Summer', a sweet romantic movie if you ever want to watch. Since then she stayed with him till truly death.

He was a political activist, he swung far over to the left. But what is more notable is his donations towards charities. Paul Newman made summer camps for underpriveleged children. He had a food franchise that raised 250million in profit, all gone to charity (I recomend the tomatoe sauce and the ceasar dressing.) After the death of his son due to overdose he started the Scott Newman Center, Prevention of Drug Abusive through Eduaction. Not only this but he gave back to the environment and started conservation's.

Newman was born in Shaker Heights, Ohio, a suburb of Cleveland, the younger son of a sports store owner. His father was of Jewish-German descent and his mother was a Catholic whose family came from Hungary. She became a Christian Scientist when Paul was just five but her new beliefs did not impinge on the family and later in life Newman chose to follow none of their beliefs but, when asked, opted "for Jewishness because I considered it more challenging".

His acting debut, aged seven, was as the court jester in Robin Hood at school. He left Shaker Heights high school in 1943 and went on briefly to Ohio University, in Athens, where he was expelled, supposedly after an incident involving a keg of beer and the rector's car.
His comfortable life and good looks were proving a mixed blessing and wayward behaviour ended in trouble for drunkenness; there were even a couple of very brief stints behind bars. He had a lifelong liking for practical jokes.

Paul Newman died surrounded by friends and family at home. he had been fighting a long battle with skin cancer. He was one of America's on screen masters. His name will go down in history. Let his soul rest in peace.
